Have Your Say on setting council rents for 2026-27

South Lanarkshire Council is inviting tenants to share their views on the proposed rent increase for 2026–27 as part of its annual consultation.
The Budget Scrutiny Group (BSG), made up of tenant representatives from across South Lanarkshire and council representatives, has once again played a key role in shaping and coordinating this year’s rent consultation programme.
The programme began this month with a meeting between the BSG and senior council officials to discuss what influenced this year’s proposed rent increase, including rent affordability and the council’s long-term business plan.
There will be a number of opportunities to have your say, including face-to-face and/or online meetings and the online rent survey, which will be available on the council’s website and promoted on the council’s social media platforms.
To close the consultation, a tenant-led event will be held on 9 December 2025 in Hamilton Town House, facilitated by the South Lanarkshire Tenant Development Support Project (SLTDSP). This event will offer tenants a chance to discuss the factors influencing the proposed rent increase and have their say on the increase.
Tenant representative David Downie stressed the importance of getting involved.
He said: “Living costs are still high, so it’s important that tenants take part in this annual review and have their say on the proposed rent increase.”
All feedback will be compiled into a report and presented to Housing and Technical Resources Committee in early 2026, where approval for the rent increase will be sought.
